Man Charged With Injecting His Wife With Meth in ArkansasArkansas Anthony Smith is being charged under a relatively obscure statute in Arkansas law, which covers the introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person.
Smith is accused of injecting a lethal injection of methamphetamine into his wife, Rhonda, on Nov. 5. She died later at a local Arkansas hospital from the overdose.
He is being held in the Benton County, Arkansas Jail on a Class Y felony, the highest felony charge in Arkansas law. Smith and his wife were longtime intravenous drug users, Arkansas police said, but prosecutors are not treating this as a murder case because the injection was consensual.
Smith, however, could be charged with manslaughter, Arkansas authorities said.
"If you can prove that someone did indeed introduce a drug, it doesn't matter what drug it was, It would satisfy the statute," said Shane Wilkinson, of the Benton County, Arkansas Prosecutor's Office.
Smith has no prior criminal record, Arkansas authorities said. If convicted, he could spend up to life in prison. Drug Rehab by County
